Mrs. Carissa Hairrell
Biomedical Community Counselor
Hello TORS! My name is Carissa Hairrell. I was born in Texarkana, Texas, was raised in rural Oklahoma, then eventually made my way back to Texas to teach. My husband and I met while in college at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, in Durant, Oklahoma. I majored in English Education, and he is an aviation mechanic, specializing in helicopters. Upon graduation in 2000, we moved to the Dallas area, where I taught middle school ELA for four years. We do not have human children, but we do enjoy raising fur children... two dogs and two cats. We moved to Galveston in 2004 and have been islanders by choice ever since. I have taught at all levels of ELA and am certified in secondary English, reading, ESL, GT, and grades 4-8 Generalist. I love helping students in all areas of growth; therefore, I felt a calling to enter the field of guidance counseling. I was the Biomedical and STEM counselor starting in 2016 and since 2018 am solely dedicated to the students of the BioMed community. I truly feel that supporting kids with academic planning, and basically being their biggest fan and cheerleader, are the best possible ways for me to help the students of Galveston. I believe in second and third chances and that EVERY child can learn and become a productive member of society with the right support at home and at school. Please contact me with any questions or need. If I do not know the answer, I am usually pretty good at finding the person who does.
